FAQ

Red outline of a lightbulb with a question mark.
  • The Brown Entrepreneurship Alumni Mentoring (BEAM) Program connects experienced mentors with aspiring mentees from the Brown University alumni community. The program is designed to facilitate knowledge sharing, personal and professional growth, and the establishment of valuable connections.

  • Mentor-mentee pairs are expected to adhere to a set of guiding principles, which include maintaining a professional and respectful relationship, avoiding solicitation for business development or investment, and behaving professionally. Both mentors and mentees are expected to be well-prepared for their interactions.

    See Program Expectations.

  • Absolutely. While there are no restrictions on the topics you can discuss, we do ask that neither party attempts to solicit the other for business development or investment unless initiated by the other party.

  • The choice of meeting format is entirely up to you. There are no specific expectations or limitations from BEAM’s perspective.

  • Effective mentorship requires time and a minimum cadence of meetings. Once paired, we ask that you meet at least twice a month, with a minimum total meeting time of one hour per month. The formal program lasts three months, translating to at least six interactions over the pilot program's duration. Of course, if you prefer to meet more often and continue the relationship past three months, that’s up to the two of you.

  • If you feel that your assigned pairing is unsuitable for any reason, you can decline it. However, we cannot guarantee an alternative pairing.

  • If a mentorship pairing isn't working out or one party wishes to end the relationship, either party can inform BEAM, and we will work with the pair on the next steps. Note that in such cases, we cannot guarantee the availability of an alternative pairing.

  • The BEAM Program offers a unique opportunity to share knowledge, inspire, and connect with fellow alumni entrepreneurs. By participating, mentors can contribute to the growth and success of emerging entrepreneurs while building lasting connections within the Brown community.

Join us in this exciting endeavor to inspire, connect, and support entrepreneurially-minded Brown alumni. Your involvement will help create lasting bonds and provide immense value to both fellow alumni and our alma mater.
